I had only been working at my career job for only a few years, when we were in a mild recession and salaries were frozen. My instructor who trained all the new service reps was taking a new position and his job was now open. Even though I did not have the time and experience with the company, I applied for the position anyway. I was told to forget it they had other people who had been with the company for 10 years or more who were in line for the job.
A few months later I was told that the other people had turned down the position and if I wanted it the job was mine! At a time when no one was getting raises, due to the change of a job to a much higher paid position, I received a 20% increase! You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, (Deuteronomy 8:17,18 NIV) Wealth could be the clothing worn in the desert for forty years that did not wear out. Or the manna that came each morning. Or the water that was provided in the desert out of hard rock. Wealth is having need of nothing. In my life God provided the jobs, the people I came into contact with, the solutions to problems that I faced and I had need of nothing. I would say that I was wealthy! We sometimes count wealth as how much money we have in the bank. But when do we have enough to say that we are wealthy? How much money do we need to be wealthy? If we measure wealth by the amount of money we have then we will always be looking for more. But if we can say that all of our needs have been met, then we can say that we are truly wealthy. When our parents were in need of medical insurance God provided an inheritance that when invested, provided returns that more than cover the cost of the insurance and medication as well. Our needs and their needs were met even before we were aware of the problem. Earning wealth is very misleading, we earn money not wealth. Wealth is much more than money, it is everything, a state of mind, it is something that cannot be measured. Someone told me recently that if he only had a car he would be a man. I think that what he was really telling me was that he would be wealthy. I prayed that God would provide him with a car. If we had to walk or take a taxi or ask someone for a ride every time we went somewhere, then having a car would indeed make us feel wealthy! When do we have enough money to be wealthy? When all of our needs are met. At that point we are wealthy, any more is just more wealthy. When we have more than we need, we can help others meet their needs and then they become wealthy also. Wealth can come in strange packages. We had been thinking about getting a dog for several years, but put it off knowing all the trouble a pet can be at times. It would have to be the right kind of dog as we have two people in our home in their nineties. We looked at a few but always found some reason to wait, money was not a problem, we were willing to pay a good price for the right dog. A lady that loved pups, but gave them away when they got older was looking for a good home for a Yorkshire so we said that we would be interested. The dog was more than we could have ever wished for. He was perfect for the family, old enough to not give a lot of problems, easy to train and best of all a pleasure to both of our older parents. The dog was free, except for the normal expenses of maintaining a pet. The pleasure we have had with the new dog is a wealth that cannot be measured, and we did nothing to obtain it. We may think that we are in control, and through our power and strength we produce wealth, but if we think back on the circumstances we will see that none of what happens to us is possible without God's help. And why does He do this for us? To confirm his covenant, which He swore to our forefathers. However, there is a strong warning to those who forget the Lord and follow other gods. They will be destroyed! So if we want to be wealthy we only need to obey the Lord Jesus Christ. Ron and Joy own a very nice home in Florida. They have been wanting to move north for several years and Ron's work was in jeopardy due to the slump in the housing market. They tried to sell for a year with no success. Last week my wife prayed with them that God would send someone to buy their house. Tonight we got a call, A lady from Canada knocked on the door and was asking about the house next door that was on the market. As Joy was telling her about the house, her daughter-in-law spoke up and said that this house is for sale! The lady explained that she had just flown down for the week to find two houses for her and her friend and they liked both houses. How wealthy we are to have a Father who answers our prayers and quickly meets our needs.
