“Money is human kind's greatest invention. Money doesn't discriminate. Money doesn't care whether a person is poor, whether a person comes from a good family, or what his skin color is. Anybody can make money.” -Takafumi Horie
Many people who struggle with money issues suffer from negative money associations. These associations can cause problems in the way individuals view, spend, and make money. If you are suffering from financial problems and never seem to have enough money to meet your monthly expenses you may not want to reflect on you view money and your childhood experiences with it. Individuals fear money, being successful, and getting what they want out of life for many reasons. Some people believe they are unworthy of success. Negative money associations can also stem from their childhood where they had a bad experience with money or were taught that money was bad. Many religions preach that money is the root of all evil, rich people are bad, and that 'good' individuals must suffer to be accepted by their god. Another common negative association with money comes with the value of hard work. Many people are taught in childhood that money is only earned through hard work. Therefore, the only place you can get money is from work. If you need or want more money you must work for it. Certainly, being a hard working individual is a good thing. It is important to point out that there are ways, through investments, where people can make their hard earned money work for them. People often let these negative associations rule their finances. Feeling that they are unworthy or simply can not be part of the investment crowd. Only after these negative associations with money are realized and dealt with can you begin to realize your financial potential. Money should not be feared. It is a tool which can help your family, yourself, and your community live better, healthier, and happier lives. Allow yourself to view financial stability not as a sin but as a virtue. It is something you should strive for and when it achieved, it should be something you can enjoy fully without guilt. Many people feel that investors and business men are greedy, shady, and out to rip people off. This is simply not true. Warren Buffett, the world's second richest man, is a successful investor and has been able to maintain his morality, and ethics while still becoming extremely wealthy. If you feel you have negative associations with money make a list of your internal thoughts about money. Then list reasons why each of those thoughts are false, irrational, and illusions built on childhood memories not reality. You deserve to live the life you want and have the future you dreamed of.
